March 4, 2008

Dear Marchers:

Although March arrived like a lion, OOTC volunteers just march on! There were so many hungry last night, so don't stop fighting.

If you are looking for a non-kosher dinner for tonight, may I suggest the yummy chicken with cream of mushroom sauce which goes well with "memories of February" soups, peas and carrots, tossed salad and bananas for dessert.  Thank you to everyone who shlepped, cleaned, cooked and carted.

Last night as Lila and I were setting up the snack table for the overnighters with hot chocolate, buttered buns, fruit and dip, crackers, a man arrived asking for a bed and food.  We showed him the snack table and got him a bagged lunch. He was very grateful. This morning at 6:05 am, as I turned the corner to enter the church, that same gentleman was outside shovelling the walkway. I told him, "You don't have to do that."  He looked up, recognized me, and answered, "You didn't have to feed me last night."

Please RSVP, by Friday, if possible, for the OOTC Sabbath, invitation attached. (We would never want to run out of food and seating.  Sound familiar?) ALL are invited, non-Jewish especially!  The fact that you defend the poor and disenfranchised makes you one with whom we would love to share our Shabbat.

Our congratulations and best wishes go to our beloved volunteers, Rev. George & Sybil Horton, who will be honoured at the service this Sunday, March 9th, at Stewart Memorial Church, 114 John St. N. at 11:00 am.

More wonderful news. Next Tuesday, we will be honoured by a visit from Sister Susan Moran, the founder of Out of the Cold who will be coming from Toronto around 4:00 pm. For a look at Sister's life and remarkable work saving lives and inspiring others.... http://www.thestar.com/article/174425

And, finally, Joanne and Lila and Rhona remind everyone not to forget to set your OOTC clock forward this weekend. (Late-comers will be forced to make up the next week's schedule!)

Stretch before you shovel, and do something nice for yourself today.  See you soon,

Cindy
